VAADRView is the debriefing software and viewing console application for DDC's VAADR® recorders. Besides conventional playback, it can do forensic image analysis, image enhancement, transcoding, metadata viewing, and so much more - directly from VAADR or on video stored on a PC or network drive.

This unique debriefing software application is used to debrief video and data recorded by VAADR, but it can also be employed to display/process other standard videos and images from GPS video players. It can also control VAADR with a plug-in. VAADR View can display metadata and provide a simultaneous live video overlay of 2D and 3D vehicle tracks from satellite imagery, while playing back video with the map data and video windows in lock step with each other. It provides unprecedented instant access to large amounts of video (even over a network) with no significant load delays for a seamless, fluid intuitive user experience. VAADR and VAARDView are suitable for raw video workflows.

Metadata Displays Established During Video Recording

VAADRView debriefing software provides a wide range of metadata displays that can be synchronized with your video playback, and are set up at the time of recording. Examples of such metadata include:
  • CAN 2.0 data from vehicle recordings
  • Camera parameters
  • GPS
  • Vehicle position and orientation over map data (Google Earth, Google Maps, NASA Worldwind)
  • Export GPX paths
  • Display MGRS and Lat/Lon coordinates for the location of a mouse in a video/image (and grids)
  • Customizable to suit your exact needs

Post Video Annotations

After video recording, VAADRView can add:
  • Shapes
  • Images
  • Text annotations, including dynamic metadata text annotations that update as a video plays
  • Burn-in annotations when saving images or videos
  • Non-destructive burn-in annotations in NITF images or MISP video

Video & Image Processing

VAADRView debriefing software provides image processing and enhancement during playback of recorded video, providing control of contrast/brightness/AGC, LAP (for detail extraction), sharpening, etc.

DDC uses VAADRView to develop new image processing algorithms, by developing VAADRView plugins to experiment with various enhancements and show customers the results. Take a look at some examples of our before and after images below to see some of the amazing effects that DDC can achieve with your imagery, many of which are already in VAADRView, or could be added, or could be provided in custom hardware.

VAADRView Features

  • Runs on any modern laptop, PC, or sever
  • Heavily optimized for minimal footprint (for example, will work on older XP-based laptops with limited memory)
  • Instant access to almost any amount of VAADR video, whether on a VAADR, or on a PC or network server
  • Extensive file types:  JPG, RAW, MPEG-2, PNG, BMP, JPEG 2000, Bayer color video, NITF/NSIF, “Cursor On Target” images, MISP/STANAG-4609 “MPEG transport streams”, MP4 *
  • Useful in looking at other’s video or imagery (not just VAADR); can provide same fast access and processing
  • Synchronized metadata with video: 2D and 3D visualualization vehicle over satellite imagery side-by-side with your video playback
  • Forensic detail if desired, down to the pixel level for video, and down to the raw data for metadata
  • Handles multiple videos; can run in lockstep, and supports image differencing, etc.
  • Color overlays and enhanced data visualizations, including false color overlays, bookmark overlays, time overlays, etc.
  • Full bookmark capability (inserted at recording time, or during debrief); bookmarks are even indicated in 3D sat data; easily visualize where all of the interesting parts are
  • Independent of 3D satellite data enhancements, also includes full graphing of metadata: altitude, lat/long, pitch, roll, target information, etc. with current position played in lockstep as you watch your video
  • Image processing and enhancement during playback for exceptional detail extraction (when the source is raw or lossless)
  • Many codecs to handle a wide variety of video sources (including a fully configurable customizable interface for handling RAW from almost any camera that provides it)
  • Plugin capable, extensible

Fast Debrief

Use DDC’s optional VAADR ExFilt unit for fast debrief of VRMM 2.0 devices. VRMM 2.0 devices are inherently limited by USB2.0 transfer speeds. This ExFilt unit allows for approx 5x faster transfers for such devices. (VRMM3.0 devices are not significantly benefitted by this device.) Plug your VRMM2.0 device directly into this unit, for blazing fast extraction times. This device is not needed to extract video from VRMM2.0 devices… it is only needed when significantly faster extraction is desired.
