Video IP Demo of select DSP blocks done by DDC

The following images are those as they appear after running through
the actual hardware designs (in the simulator). Thus they are fixed point bit exact
representations of the video that would exactly match that of the real hardware in the lab


(This display is not equivalent to the lab display, and compression introduces
some variability, but virtually insignificant for this demonstration)

The views below are the CVF (Common Video Format) outputs of the respective blocks
in the FPGA, as viewed through a homegrown CVF->bitmap tool

Test Pattern generator

The following test patterns are some of the many patterns capable of being generated in the VideoIn block
Quantized Grayscale mode left->right right->left top->bottom bottom->top


Symbology

The following images were created by taking the symbology buffer stored in SDRAM, and overlaying it onto the
incoming CVF image in various modes
Passthru mode: map
XOR mode: lighthouse1     lighthouse2     map
ADD mode: map
NOT mode: map
OR mode: map
REPLACE mode: map


Convolution

The following images were created by taking an incoming CVF video stream and convolving it
with various experimental filters in various modes
3x3 convolution
(homegrown filter coefficients)
before     after     side by side
3x3 convolution
with sobel transform coefficients
for edge detection
before     after     side by side
5x5 convolution
with gaussian low pass coefficients
before     after     side by side

 

Temporal Filter

The following images were created by taking an incoming CVF video stream and averaging it
to reduce noise. The links are to animated gifs (i.e. movies)
32 frame movie with N=8 and low BER Gaussian noise added before     after averaging    

 

Decimator

The following images indicate a before and after on several different
decimator configurations
Transparent mode before after side by side
decimate by 2 horizontally and 2 vertically before after side by side
decimate by 2 horizontally and 4 vertically before after side by side
decimate by 4 horizontally and 2 vertically before after side by side
decimate by 4 horizontally and 4 vertically before after side by side
